Contract research is characterized by the university providing a research, development, or other service that has been commissioned and remunerated by another party, usually a company from the business sector. Since this involves an exchange of services, the university is engaged in commercial activity and must therefore observe the relevant commercial, legal, and tax conditions. If the university, as a publicly funded institution, offers its services on the market, it must do so at market prices.
As a company, you are welcome to contact our researchers directly in order to develop and agree on the content of possible research assignments. The binding preparation of the offer is carried out by the university and is supported in terms of calculation and legal aspects by the Research Support Department. If no separate agreement is made, the terms and conditions of the University of Hohenheim apply.
Typically, intellectual property arising from contract research is transferred to the contracting party. It should be noted, however, that the transfer of inventions or patents arising in the course of the provision of services shall be effected separately and likewise only against payment of a remuneration customary on the market.
As a researcher at the University engaging in contract research, please observe the internal guidelines and contact the Research Support Department at an early stage for support with calculating costs and legal assistance.
