Application deadlines for higher subject-related semesters

winter semester: 15 June
summer semester: 15 January

You can be admitted to the Master’s program in Agricultural Biology if you fulfill the following prerequisites:

If you completed a degree that took at least 3 years of study at a German or foreign university

  • with at least 180 ECTS credits

Bachelor's programs can be recognized if they have a biological profile such as:

    • Agricultural Biology
    • Agricultural Sciences
    • Biology
    • Nutritional Science
    • Geoecology
    • Food Science and Biotechnology
    • Biobased Products and Bioenergy
    • Environmental Sciences

    In addition, the selection committee may recognize other degree programs in the natural sciences as equivalent.

If you have good German language skills

At least level C1 in the European Framework of Reference of Languages

If you have good English language skills

At least level B2 in the European Framework of Reference of Languages

If you complete the application in full and submit in the application portal by the end of the application deadline (15 June).

If there are more applications than places, a ranking list is created. This ranking list is based on only one criterion.

Previous achievements of the started Master's program

Please include meaningful module descriptions of the corresponding achievements with your application. Make sure to include as much detail as possible regarding the course content.

Certified copy of the transcript of records and the certificate of the completed university studies with the average grade

If the degree certificate is not yet available, an overview of the examination results up to that point must be enclosed. If no average grade is shown on the transcript of records, it is calculated using the arithmetic average of the grades obtained so far.
The degree certificate must be submitted no later than December 31 of the year for which admission is requested.

Proof of German language skills (at least level C1)

  • German university entrance qualification (HZB)
  • German Bachelor´s Degree
  • TestDaF (at least level TDN4 in all four test areas)
  • DSH (at least level DSH-2)
  • DSD (at least level II; German language diploma from the Kultusministerkonferenz)
  • Goethe Certificate C2: "Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom" from the Goethe Institute
  • Deutsche Sprachprüfung II (Munich Language and Interpretation Institute (SDI))

In addition, the certificates are recognized in accordance with the resolution of the Conference of the Ministers of Education (“Access of foreign prospective students with foreign educational qualifications to study at German universities: Proof of German language proficiency”) as proof of the German language proficiency required for the degree programs.

Proof of English language skills (at least level B2) if English is not your native language

  • Final degree certificate from a Bachelor's or Master's degree program at a recognized university
  • One of the language tests in the list below:

  • Attended a bilingual school as long as English was one of the languages of instruction; or took English continuously as a subject in the upper secondary school (minimum grade of the grade average in the upper secondary school "satisfactory" (8 points)).
  • University entrance qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung, HZB), provided that English was taken as a subject in the upper secondary school (for certificates from other countries: taken continuously in the last two years before obtaining the university entrance qualification).

Recognition of already completed examinations

For admission to a higher subject-related semester, you must also request the recognition of already completed examinations at the Master’s level.

Compulsory modules

Please fill out the request for recognition of compulsory modules (PDF, 17 kB) for all examinations you would like to have recognized as compulsory modules.

Please do not forget to attach descriptions of the examinations or the corresponding courses, including the number of ECTS credits awarded and the grade, if applicable.

Elective and semi-elective modules

For the recognition of examinations as elective or semi-elective modules please submit an information request that includes a description of the examinations or the courses including the number of ECTS credits awarded and the grade, if applicable.

If you were already enrolled in a Master’s degree program:

  • Proof that the right to take examinations in the degree program for which admission is sought or a related degree program still exists
  • Proof that you are not currently involved in an ongoing exam procedure

You must submit the documents for each study programme separately, as these will be sent to different admission committees who cannot exchange documents with one another.
