Creating the ranking list
The ranking list is created using all of the points assigned and provides the basis for allocating the university places. In recognizing marks and proof which were given outside of the Federal Republic of Germany, the equivalence agreements from the Standing Conference of Education Ministers and the German Rectors’ Conference as well as agreements in the context of the university partnerships will be taken into consideration.
Final degree certificate for a completed university degree Certified copy of final transcript of records (from which the degree program contents can be seen) and the certificate. If the final degree certificate is not yet ready, please submit a certified copy of the overview of all exam grades which have been completed with your current average grade. |

Application and Admission, general
NC (“numerus clausus”) means “closed number” and indicated the number of available study places in degree programs with admission restrictions.
The Master's program M.Sc. Molecular Nutritional Science has 24 study places available per year. The question about the NC usually refers to the admission limit (see next question).
The admission limit is the ranking (expressed in a total score or grade) necessary to be granted admitted in a previous application and admission procedure. The comparison of one’s own ranking with the admission limits of previous application procedures can give you an approximate image of your chances of being given a university place.
Further information on the individual selection criteria and the calculation of the total grade can be found under the tab “selection criteria” as well as in the admission regulations (download on the right hand side).
You can open several applications in the application portal. However, you can submit maximally three applications. The portal will not allow you to submit a fourth application.
Each application for a Master’s at Hohenheim will be treated equally as a primary application.
No.
Every application will be equally considered. It is not important how many applications you have submitted or for which programs you have applied.
The application status can be viewed in the application portal at any time. As soon as the application status changes, an automatic notification will be sent to your e-mail address, asking you to log into the application portal.
This way you will receive information about e.g. the beginning of the examination of your documents, whether your documents are complete, whether they are valid, and the result of the admission procedure.
In the following you will find a list of the different admission statuses and their meaning:
Online application form in preparation | You have not yet completed the application. In order to do so, you have to submit the online application form by clicking on “submit request”. |
Submit online application form | Thanks for submitting your application in the application portal. We have received your application. |
Application is being processed | The application is currently being processed. |
Participation in the procedure | Your application fulfills the necessary requirements. It will therefore be submitted to the allocation of university places. |
Preliminarily excluded from the procedure | According to the current status, your application unfortunately cannot be considered in the university places allocation procedure. You have received a message through this application portal stating the reasons for this. |
Finally excluded from the procedure | Unfortunately, your application cannot be considered in the university places allocation procedure because you do not fulfill the necessary requirements or have not submitted the required documents. You can not longer submit any documents. |
Admission has been granted | Congratulations, you have been granted a university place! If you want to accept the university place, you have to confirm this by clicking on the according button. Afterwards you have to apply online for enrollment. |

The letters of admission‐ / rejection of the main admission procedure will be sent out around mid-July. The results of the allocation procedure will already be available in the application portal a few days before you will receive the letter.
Furthermore, letters of admission through the succession procedure may arrive until November.
Application documents (formalities)
All necessary documents have to be received by the University of Hohenheim at the latest by 15 June, and the application must have been sent using the application portal. The uploaded documents will be considered for the selection process. No additional documents can be uploaded afterwards.
The deadline for the submission of application documents does not apply to documents which may, according to the admission regulations, be submitted later.
The final degree certificate of the first degree can be submitted until 15 December of year for which admission is granted. If the required document cannot be submitted or cannot be submitted until 15 December, the probationary admission will be revoked and the study place has to be given up.
Requirements
No.
Recognition will take place only during the application procedure: All received application documents will be examined according to the fulfillment of the formal and subject specific requirements.
Arising questions (e.g. the recognition of study programs or proof of language skills) will be discussed in a meeting of the selection procedure and decided upon the basis of the submitted documents. Applicants will then be informed of the decision via the application portal.
Yes.
If you are applying even though you have not yet completed your first degree, you have to submit a current transcript of records instead of a degree certificate. The current average grade indicated in the transcript of records will be taken into consideration for the application process.
If your application has been successful, you will be granted probationary admission: The completion of the Bachelor’s degree has to be proven until 15 December of the year for which admission has been granted. If the required proof cannot be submitted or cannot be submitted until 15 December, the probationary admission will be revoked and the study place has to be given up. It is possible to apply again in the following year.
Unfortunately not.
According to the admission regulations the first degree has to be completed with the final degree of “good” (2.5) or higher in order to apply for admission.
If the last module examinations improve your grade to at least a 2.5, you may of course apply during the following application procedures.
If the required documents cannot be submitted until the end of the application deadline, you can not participate in the application procedure.
It is possible to apply again in the following year.
The requirement of proof of German language skills has to be fulfilled by every applicant. German applicants prove this simply by submitting their university entrance qualification or proof that they have studied at a German university.
If the applicant does not submit a German university entrance qualification or certificate of a degree completed at a German university, language skills have to be proven by a language test.
Selection criteria (Information on data collection sheet)
Particular academic aptitude is proven using the data sheet on academic aptitude for application to the Master's degree programs in Clinical Nutrition and Molecular Nutritional Science.
In cases of doubt please indicate that the criterion is fulfilled and submit the relevant proof. The entry will then be corrected should this not be the case.
No.
It is fine if not all subject areas are filled in. To participate in the selection procedure, however, at least as many modules with corresponding ECTS credits must be entered as is necessary to meet the minimum admission requirements (see the "Requirements" tab).
If the module covers more than one of the mentioned subject areas (e.g. “Nutritional Physiology”), you can decide yourself in which subject area you would like to enter the module. Feel free to choose the subject area in which you still need points.
Modules which cannot be matched with one of the listed subject areas are not relevant for the selection procedure and can be left out.
Always match modules with the subject area which is most fitting. If you are unsure whether a certain module can be matched with one of the subject areas, please still include it in the list.
It will then be decided by the selection committee. Make sure to include a module description in your application documents. This will be used by the selection committee for the decision.
If the name of a module does not indicate the contents (e.g. “Basics of Nutritional and Domestic Sciences”; if chemistry and biology were also contents of the module), please make sure to include a module description. This way, the selection committee can see that you have acquired the relevant study contents.
As a basis for an overview and proof of the study contents of Diplom‐ or state examination‐ programs you may for example submit curricula or overviews of the required courses (“scheinpflichtig” as well as “scheinfrei”).
It is important that these overviews include the workload (mostly in contact hours per week (SWS)) of the course.
Please include a copy of these overviews in your application documents. Instead of ECTS you can indicate the SWS in the online application form.
