University entrance qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung, HZB)
... is a collective term for all types of education that entitle you to study at a university.
There are many paths that lead to studying! In Baden-Württemberg, a HZB can be obtained by completing secondary schooling (e.g. Abitur) or based on professional qualifications. Here is an overview of ways to be qualified for admission to a Bachelor’s program at the University of Hohenheim:
- General university entrance qualification (“Abitur”)
Permits holder to start a Bachelor’s program in any subject.
- German subject-specific higher education entrance qualification (“fachgebundenes Abitur”)
Permits holder to start a Bachelor’s program in the subject area stated on the certificate.
If you want to study a subject other than the one stated on the certificate, the following possibilities exist: Delta examination
- German qualification for study at a university of applied sciences
Does not permit holder to study at the University of Hohenheim.

Prospective students without a HZB from school but with professional qualifications can obtain a general or subject-specific HZB under certain conditions.
