Information: Updates concerning health insurance contribution obligation of students in hybrid semesters [26.11.20]
Dear students,
There have been updates concerning the health insurance contribution obligation of students in hybrid semesters.
Here are the most important points summarized: For international students from non-contractual foreign countries who are prevented by the pandemic from taking up or continuing their studies in classroom form and who are therefore referred to digital, web-based courses (online studies), the SHI system now provides for individual waivers of health and nursing care insurance contributions until the time of entry into Germany.
- This regulation only applies to pandemic-related cases.
- The occurrence of the insurance obligation (KVdS) does not change.
- Contributions can be waived on (informal!) application until the day of entry. A suitable proof (usually the flight ticket or the entry stamp in the passport) must be provided by the customer.
- Contributions can also be refunded for students who have already paid contributions retroactively to the beginning of the semester under the previous legal basis if they can prove that they entered the country at a later date (existing cases).
Please contact your health insurance provider for further information. Subject centers and customer advisory services are also informed about the procedure and are available to students for implementation.
