SAFE – Supporting non-EU at-risk researchers with Fellowships in Europe  [05.11.24]

We are pleased to announce that the EU together with a consortium of partners launched the SAFE “Supporting At-risk researchers with Fellowships in Europe” project. It will provide up to 60 fellowships to non-EU at-risk researchers from all over the world for a research stay at a European higher education and research institution for a period of up to 24 months. The project responds to the growing need to offer at-risk researchers worldwide the opportunity to continue their work in the EU in a safe environment. The call for applications will be launched on 18 November 2024 and will be open until 20 January 2024.

Applications have to be submitted by the potential host organizations, and not by the individual researchers themselves. The same host institution can send one application only. We will therefore carry out an internal pre-selection at the University of Hohenheim. We ask all researchers interested in SAFE to submit an expression of interest to the Office of International Affairs by November 19, 2024. An expression of interest consists of:

  • a short description of the planned project at the University of Hohenheim naming the potential host professor at the University of Hohenheim and
  • the Eligibility and risk questionnaire for SAFE, which is available here:www.daad.de/surveys/837796
  •

Please send the project description and risk assessment to welcome.center@uni-hohenheim.de by November 19, 2024 Due to the very limited number of fellowships for the whole of Europe, we assume that there are only chances for a fellowship with a high risk assessment. The Rectorate will make the internal decision on the prioritization of the expressions of interest received.
