Craving Food in Hohenheim 

Do you know those days that are fully planned with university, exams, work or studying and you have absolutely no desire and time to cook something? - then you realize that you have no idea where to go to get some food. If you recognize yourself in this then pay attention because these are the places around the campus where you can get food, take it home or eat on site.

Firstly the most obvious one: the Mensa. The mensa is split into the dining room where you go to eat lunch and the Cafeteria which is also located inside the mensa and is open from 7:30 am to 5 pm and 3 pm on fridays. Also remember that during semester break the mensa has different opening hours and is opened from 8 am to 3 pm. In the Cafeteria you can buy breakfast products or snacks like joghurts, sandwiches, brezels or sweet treets as well as cold drinks and coffee. Lunch is served in the Mensa from 11 am until 2 pm.  Meals cost from around two to five euros and normally you can choose between two to four meals with meat, a vegetarien and/or a vegan option. There is also always a salad buffet but keep in mind that the price is calculated by the weight. On the webpage as well as in the UniNow App you can check the menu for each day on Mensa menu.

Another option is the Denkbar. It is a mixture between a restaurant, a bar and a cafe and prices are somewhat higher than in the mensa. If you are looking for a nice spot to chat or for a date near the campus or you just want to have a nice meal this is the place. The food is good, healthy and freshly made. There are usually vegetarian and vegan options on the menu. The restaurant is opened every day until 10 pm (except saturdays) and Sundays until 6 pm, so this could also be an option to meet for some drinks. Wirtshaus Garbe is another restaurant next to Campus by the roundabout at the Garbe. Similar to the Denkbar the prices are somewhat higher than in the mensa. However, there is a variety of typical german and swabian food. For example you could try the “Dinnete“ which is a typical swabian dish, similar to a “Flammkuchen”. They also have other options like Käsespätzle, loads of meat dishes or Maultaschen. Opening hours are every day from 12 noon to 9:30 pm. In case you want a more fast and cheap option, just walk to the U-Bahn station Garbe. Here you find the kiosk Kara Imbiss. The imbiss offers kebap, hamburger, falafel and more. Prices are more accessible with 3 - 6 euros. It is opened during the week until 6 pm (except sundays).  

Another kebap place is the Antep Grill Restaurant on the opposite side to the imbiss. Here you will also find everything from kebap to falafel to burgers or pizza. Prices vary from 5 to 11 € depending on the size and kind of meal you order. In this restaurant you also have the possibility to sit and eat on site. As well in the area between the Copy place and the BW-Bank you can find Danis Eule. Which is mainly a bakery but they also have lunch. Prices lay between 4 – 6 € and they are open from 7 am to 8  pm, saturdays until 7 pm. It is also possible to call them (0711 94558327) and pre-order lunch. Another Kebap is located in the village next to Hohenheim – Birkach. Big Bross - Hamburger, Pizza, Döner is in Birkheckenstraße 11 an about 30 minute walk from campus. You can also take the bus which will take about 5 minutes. Besides kebap they also offer traditional Turkish food, as well as pizza. They are opened from 11 am to approximately 11 pm and on fridays until midnight. They also offer a delivery service. Check out their website: Big Bross Kebap.  

Pulcinella, is an Italian restaurant that is also located close to campus near the university sports hall. They serve Italian food and pizza and prices are fair. Opening times go from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm and 6 pm to 10 pm. They do not have an official website but you can check the menu here: Pulcinella menu.  

If you have cravings for another type of food or do not want to leave your flat you can also use a delivery app. Here you can order food in restaurants nearby and they deliver the food to you. It generally takes around 45 min. For example: Lieferando
