Molluscicidal Pterocarpanes from Erythrina burana and a new Indole Alkaloid from Erythrina brucei

A new indole alkaloid, 2 pterocarpanes, and 2 flavanones were isolated from the seeds of Erythrina brucei, the bark of Erythrina burana (Fabaceae) and the roots of Polygonum barbatum (Polygonaceae). The structure of the indole alkaloid was detd. on the basis of spectral data esp. carbon-13, proton NMR spectra and two-dimensional NMR expts. Spectral data of the pterocarpanes and flavanones were in accordance with those published in literature. Only pterocarpanes showed molluscicidal activity although pterocarpanes and flavanones were biosynthetically related.
