A key piece of advice for all international students aiming to work in Germany after completing their Master’s at Hohenheim: “Don’t wait until graduation to start planning,” advises Janine Peters from Hohenheim’s CareerCenter.
Landing a job requires more than just academic expertise. “Strong German language skills, soft skills, and the right professional connections are just as important,” explains Peters, who coordinates the BRICKS program in collaboration with the Office of International Affairs and the Language Center.
From the very beginning, BRICKS was developed in close cooperation with key labor market stakeholders - such as companies and advisory institutions— to ensure the program is aligned with real-world employment needs. The result is a comprehensive offering that includes intensive German language training, a “Career Entry” boot camp, company visits, and personalized career coaching.
A major focus of the program is language support. “German skills are a key success factor for a successful career start in Germany,” emphasizes Beate Löh, Head of the Language Center at the University of Hohenheim. To address this, BRICKS offers a wide range of language courses—including intensive online classes before the start of the semester to help international students navigate both university life and everyday situations in Germany.
These core modules are enhanced by complementary offerings such as the International Café, which serves as a regular point of contact for all questions and concerns. Upcoming “fair walks” to regional job fairs, along with established company fairs directly on campus, provide excellent networking opportunities with potential employers.
“With BRICKS, we want to support you in discovering your strengths, gaining insights into German companies and preparing for job applications. “Take advantage of this opportunity—learn more and get involved,” says Peters, encouraging participation.
