Student activities

Get involved and gain experience

AStA

Become a member of the AStA (General Student Committee) and shape university life together with other students. The AStA is an elected group of committed students who work for the interests of all students.

As a member, you represent students in dealings with the Studierendenwerk and the university, manage financial resources, and organize events and activities. The AStA is elected once a year by the StuPa (Student Parliament). Even as a non-elected member you can take over tasks and units.

Fachschaft

As a member of a Fachschaft (student representatives for the departments), you become the representative and contact person of your faculty and actively shape the degree program. You will have the opportunity to participate in the political life of the university and improve everyday student life. For example, the Fachschaft provides assistance to first-year students like you and organizes introductory events at the start of your studies. The Fachschaft is also the point of contact for lecturers and administrative staff when, for example, student opinions are needed.

Student groups

With over 40 student groups, the University of Hohenheim offers you many opportunities to get involved outside of lectures. This way, you can not only gain practical experience during your studies, but also socialize especially at when you’re getting started at the university.

The content focus of the groups ranges from politics and society to careers, culture, and leisure. There is sure to be something for your interests.

University radio

Would you like to try out journalism on the radio and expand your media skills? The university radio station Stuttgart HORADS 88.6, as an officially licensed learning radio station, gives students of the Stuttgart and Ludwigsburg universities the opportunity to get to know the medium of radio in a practical way. It can be received in the Stuttgart city area via 88.6 MHz and worldwide via live stream and RadioApp. Together with currently about 100 students you can create the radio program every week and broadcast live from the HORADS studio at the Hochschule der Medien.

Study-life balance

Studying also means having fun sometimes

University sports

The University of Hohenheim offers a varied sports program so that not only your brain stays fit. Each semester you can choose from more than 40 sports and over 80 courses. In addition to ball sports and martial arts, fitness and relaxation courses, individual sports and dancing, you also have the opportunity to try out trend sports such as spikeball or ultimate frisbee. Registration takes place on a semester basis without long-term contracts. The entire offer is close to campus, can be integrated into the lecture breaks, and is inexpensive. You also get to meet new people.

Thomas-Müntzer-Scheuer (TMS)

The TMS is the student hub on our campus. Here you can find cultural events, cheap coffee, and student parties. The TMS is managed exclusively by students and serves as a retreat, student club, coffee meeting place, and cultural pub. On Tuesdays, the cultural group provides a varied program: whether improv theater and poetry slams or game nights and karaoke events. Every Thursday night, a Fachschaft or student group hosts a student party.

Music & theater

Anyone who is interested in music has many opportunities to get involved in Hohenheim. Lovers of light music will find what they are looking for in Hohenheim, as will fans of serious music. Whether it’s a recorder ensemble, big band, Chor for More, concert band, woodwind ensemble, rock, pop and jazz musicians, symphony orchestra, or university choir - there is something for everyone!

In our theater group you have the opportunity to participate in a play once or twice a year. From choosing the pieces, voice and body training to building the stage set, everything is done together.

Coffee break

Relax and meet friends

Whether you need a short break in between classes or a long chat with friends over coffee, there are various possibilities on our campus to recharge your batteries. In the Mensa you can enjoy delicious meals Monday through Friday, also to take away. The adjacent cafeteria offers snacks, sweets, and drinks.
