The first canteen meal, the first time in the library, meeting new fellow students for the first time and getting a taste of research for the first time: around 2,250 first-year students begin their studies at the University of Hohenheim in the winter semester. They were welcomed this week. The Online-Kurier has compiled some impressions.

A full auditorium, students engrossed in conversation or out and about exploring - and all this in golden autumn weather up to 26 °C: After Corona and its aftermath had put a heavy damper on student life in recent years, the special university atmosphere at the start of the semester can finally be enjoyed to the full again these days.

Whether at the welcome by the university’s president, at the campus rallies with the student councils, at the library tours, at the research taster sessions or at the kick-off fair with a variety of stands from the Central Student Advisory Service to the International Office to the university merchandise: good moods and a desire for university were in the air in many places this week.

At the start of the winter semester 2023/24, 2,250 new first-year students (Bachelor & Master) have enrolled at the University of Hohenheim - roughly the same number as at the same deadline one year ago. Nevertheless, the University of Hohenheim is shrinking by about 200 students because the baby boomers are graduating. A total of 8,500 students are currently enrolled (as of 10.10.23).

However, the student statistics for this semester are not yet complete, as many international students from non-EU countries in particular are still expected until the end of November due to delays in the issuing of visas.
