A week of trying out research, refreshing your math, getting to know the campus, and making new contacts: seven days before the start of the lecture period, the University of Hohenheim is inviting you for the first time to an orientation week covering all faculties. The goal: To give all first-year students a good start to a successful degree program.

"Welcome to Hohenheim, welcome to the academic world," University President Stephan Dabbert welcomed the latest Hohenheim generation of students to the Audimax today.

2,251 first-semester students have enrolled for a course at the University of Hohenheim so far. Slightly fewer than on the same date last year (2,384).

Instead of a welcoming day as in previous years, for the first time they can expect a complete orientation week, including research introductory courses, mathematics preparatory courses, campus rallies, library tours, Instagram quizzes, pizza evenings, and other getting-to-know-you events with students in higher semesters.

As a welcome present, the first-year students also received a Hohenheim cloth bag with an individualized course catalogue, a guidebook for self-organization during their studies, and further documents for their studies.

Prof. Dr. Korinna Huber, Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of Hohenheim, is very committed to the welcome culture. Often, the initial phase of a degree program determines its later success. In recent years, the University has invested a great deal to support prospective students in choosing a suitable degree program and to improve the conditions for starting their studies.

"There is also a need for action because today's students start their studies with very different previous knowledge and skills," said Huber. "With the events of the orientation week, we want to convey to all new members what the University is, how we teach and learn here, and make it easier for them to start their studies by providing concrete information for getting started."

The program is made possible by the intensive cooperation among the faculties, the Central Student Counselling Center, the Office of International Affairs, the student representatives as well as the projects "STEP up!" and "Steps 4.0," funded by the Ministry of Science, Art and Culture.
