1st place in Germany, 9th place in Europe, 19th place worldwide / Agricultural research at the University of Hohenheim also leads Germany in other international rankings

Top place for top research: In the agricultural sciences including food sciences, the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart remains the undisputed leader in the QS World University Ranking by Subject 2023 published today. In Europe, it is among the top ten in this area, in 9th place. The University of Hohenheim is also one of the world's leading universities in the field of agricultural sciences: It ranks 19th, tied with The University of Queensland (Australia) and the University of British Columbia (Canada), out of 420 universities listed in this subject. The QS World University Ranking by Subject carried out by the British education provider QS Quacquarelli Symonds focuses on research strength. For agricultural and forestry sciences, it surveys the factors academic reputation (40%), citations of individual publications (20%), the H-index as an indicator of the reputation of individuals in professional circles (20%), the international research network (10%), and the reputation of graduates among employers (10%). This year, the ranking examined a total of 54 subjects.


Agricultural research in top position in Germany in other rankings, as well

The University of Hohenheim’s top position in Germany is also confirmed by other prominent international rankings:

  • The renowned research ranking of the National Taiwan University (NTU Ranking) listed the university as no. 1 in Germany, no. 9 in Europe, and no. 36 in the world.   • The current Best Global Universities Ranking 2023 places the University of Hohenheim’s agricultural research including food and nutrition science 1st in Germany, 9th in Europe, and 39th in the world. The subject ranking of the U.S. News & World Report magazine is based on the analysis of Clarivate Analytics InCites and takes into account research performance and international reputation. Top placements for University of Hohenheim partners

The other universities that were with Hohenheim in the top group of agricultural research are quite familiar. The ten best in Europe include Wageningen University & Research WUR (Netherlands) and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences SLU (Sweden) as well as the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna BOKU (Austria). The University of Hohenheim has long cooperated closely with the Universities of Wageningen and Copenhagen within the Euroleague of Life Sciences (ELLS). This network is made up of joint degree programs and intensive exchange of students and instructors.

China Agricultural University (CAU, China) is ranked #1 in China and #11 in the world this year. The University of Hohenheim has been cooperating with the CAU for around 40 years, including since 2018 in the form of the German-Chinese Research Training Group AMAIZE-P on a more resource-efficient use of phosphate.
