Hidden Hunger:
First worldwide Congress at the University of Hohenheim [29.01.13]
Press conference on Thursday, 7th March 2013 at 11:30 a.m. with leading experts on the topic of hidden hunger / Conference from 6th to 9th March
Experts from germany, the USA, the UN and the FAO will come together for the first time to join the international congress from the 6th to the 9th of March 2013 at the University of Hohenheim. Their common goal: to bring the crisis caused by a worldwide micronutrient deficiency to the attention of politicians and the general public and to demonstrate which strategies can be used to get the problem under control. Fighting hidden hunger is an important task to be accomplished not only in poorer countries, but also in developed nations, including Germany.Among the experts attending the convention will be:
- David Nabarro, Chairman of the United Nations Global Food Security Commitee
- Joachim von Braun, Director of the Zentrums für Entwicklungsforschung in Bonn and former Director of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI)
- Adam Drewnowsky, Washington University, who has been campaigning for efforts to combat hidden hunger for many years
- Leslie Amoroso, Chair of the Food Security Panel of the FAO
- Lindsay Ellen, Department of Agriculture, USA
- Dan Raiten, National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA
- Zulfiqhar Bhutta, Aga Khan University Karachi, Pakistan, expert on child mortality
- Keith West, School of Public Health, Baltimore, a leading vitamin A researcher
- Michael Zimmermann, ETH Zürich, leading expert on symptoms related to iodine deficiency
