A full stomach is not enough: Hidden hunger a real danger  [22.01.13]

Nutrition expert at the University of Hohenheim raises awareness for paradoxical phenomenon with new book/ Reading at the conference centre of the Bundespressekonferenz in Berlin on 28 Januar 2013 starting at 1:00 p.m..

They "hunger" although their bellies are filled daily. 2.5 billion people worldwide are affected by a condition known as hidden hunger - and not only in developing countries. The hunger they suffer from often goes unnoticed due to the fact that they do not suffer from feelings of hunger. People whose budgets do not permit them to enjoy a balanced and varied diet may be lacking essential nutrients. In developed countries, hidden hunger is particularly common in cases where poverty dominates - often among single, unemployed mothers and their children, as well as elderly persons with little money. "The issue is apparently not in the public interest. Instead it is hidden", according to the Managing Director of the Food Security Center Prof. Dr. Hans Konrad Biesalski of the University of Hohenheim. He has dedicated an entire book to this disturbing phenomenon. He will introduce the book during a reading at the conference centre of the Bundespressekonferenz in Berlin on 28 Januar 2013 starting at 1:00 p.m.. The English version of the book entitled "Hidden Hunger" is set to be released on 28 February 2013.
