Excellence in Teaching:
University of Hohenheim Receives Prestigious Ars Legendi Prize [14.11.14]
Donors’ Association and German Rectors’ Conference (HRK) Present Prof. Dr. Martin Blum and His Team with Award for Reform Project “Humboldt Reloaded” in Studies 3.0
The University of Hohenheim has become the first university in Baden-Württemberg to receive the prestigious Ars Legendi Prize for excellence in teaching. The award from the Donors’ Association and the German Rectors' Conference (HRK) is considered the highest national prize for teaching quality and was presented to Prof. Dr. Martin Blum. The award was given for the reform project “Humbold reloaded,” in which students are active in research during their Bachelor’s program. The University of Hohenheim’s award-winner will share the prize money of 50,000 euros with Prof. Dr. Daniela Elsner from the Goethe University of Frankfurt am Main, who also received the award. The awards ceremony will take place on 1 December 2014 in Berlin.
“Humboldt Reloaded” is the name of the pilot project in new teaching at the University of Hohenheim. Developed by Prof. Dr. Martin Blum, it gives inquisitive students the chance to dive into research in small groups with excellent supervision at an early stage in their studies.
Ars Legendi Jury: “Humboldt Reloaded is an excellent example of learning by research”
With the Ars Legendi Prize, the Donors’ Association for German Science and the German Rectors’ Conference honored the “outstanding and innovative achievement in teaching, advising and supervising especially in the area of learning by research.”
The project is exemplary in three ways at once, commented University President Prof. Dr. Stephan Dabbert: “Humboldt Reloaded leads young people to research at an early stage and thus plants the seed for scientific careers, from which we as a university with high research standards also profit. At the same time, Humboldt Reloaded created a think tank in which dedicated staff members develop new concepts and make progress in teaching.”
Especially exemplary is the way in which Humboldt Reloaded staff members work together across all Faculties. “With this strength in research and intensive networking within the University, Humboldt Reloaded embodies several of the University’s strategic goals all at once.”
