Breakthrough in Measurement Technique:
New High-Performance Laser Could Revolutionize Weather Predictions [13.01.16]
University of Hohenheim weather and climate researchers develop a new generation of remote sensing systems / paper in Reviews of Geophysics
Weather prognoses and climate simulations could become much more precise in the future. This is made possible by the Lidar method, the world’s most precise technique for remote sensing of humidity and temperature. With its new devices, the University of Hohenheim’s weather and climate researchers helped create a decisive breakthrough in the Lidar technique. In the Hohenheim systems, cutting edge high-performance technology is applied. An international research team has now compared various methods of remote sensing. The result: Hohenheim’s Lidar systems measure water vapor and temperature in the lower atmospheric layers more precisely and with a higher resolution than all other systems. Climate research can also benefit from the new technique. The study has been published in Reviews of Geophysics under dx.doi.org/10.1002/2014RG000476
