The ranking is not based on information provided by the universities to be evaluated, but on research performance, the quality of teaching and faculties, and on how many alumni are in top positions. The evaluation is calculated according to a point system from 0 to 100. The University of Hohenheim achieved 71.4 points.
In a worldwide comparison, the universities in Baden-Württemberg did particularly well: All nine made it into the top 1,000.

- In the area of Life Sciences, the University made it into the top 250 universities in the world in the THE Ranking by Subject 2019 of the magazine "Times Higher Education" (THE). BACKGROUND: CWUR World University Ranking
The Center for World University Rankings CWUR in the United Arab Emirates has been publishing academic rankings since 2012. The World University Ranking evaluates universities on the basis of seven indicators. The quality of teaching and the question of how many alumni are in high positions are each included in the evaluation with 25 percent, the quality of the faculties with 10 percent. Research performance is evaluated according to four different criteria and counts for a total of 40 percent (total number of publications, number of publications in high-ranking journals, number of publications in particularly influential journals, number of citations).
