Biogas International:
International meeting of experts at the Universität Hohenheim  [02.12.07]

18 to 21 September 2007: International Conference "Progress in Biogas", University of Hohenheim, 70599 Stuttgart
19 September 2007: Evening reception at 19:30 attended by Peter Hauk (MdL), the Baden-Württemberg Minister for Nutrition and Rural Areas, and Ernst Pfister (MdL), Minister for the Economy, in the Refectory Building (Mensagebäude), Garbenstraße 26, University of Hohenheim, 70599 Stuttgart

All aspects of the current state research into biogas will be discussed when the Universität Hohenheim becomes host to biogas experts from throughout the world for the three day-long conference. The conference is organised by the International Biogas and Biomass Competence Centre (IBBK) and the State Institute for Agricultural Machinery and Construction at the Universität Hohenheim, the Ministry for Rural Areas (MLR) and the Ministry of the Economy (WM).

Climate protection demands a complete worldwide rethink within the global and regional energy markets and renewable energy, in particular, will get a huge boost from this. Biogas is particularly appealing because of its versatile use of different raw materials and because of the variety of ways in which the energy can be generated and used.

The wide spectrum of issues covered by the conference range from the global hotspots in terms of biogas production, the development of biogas production in rural areas and new production techniques and the marketing of these. In addition to an interesting and informative programme of events, those attending the "Biogas" conference will also gain an interesting and useful impression of Baden-Württemberg, beyond the purely technical, by a series of trips to biogas plants in the surrounding area.

The Universität Hohenheim has been carrying out intensive research into biogas since the Seventies. The breath of their research includes the selection, breeding and cultivation of new fuel plants, their agricultural processing and the international economic aspects of this. The Universität Hohenheim also has Europe’s most modern biogas laboratory. A research plant is currently under construction, which will act as a research platform for all the R & D work within Baden-Württemberg.
