CHE 2022 Rankings:
Top Marks for Master’s and Doctoral Programs in Food Science & Biotech  [24.11.22]

Latest CHE university rankings assess food science and biotechnology Master’s and doctoral programs at the University of Hohenheim.

Excellent studying conditions, particular focus on research, and an especially high number of doctorates: The latest rankings by the Center for Higher Education (CHE) attest to an excellent educational environment for Master’s students and early career researchers at the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart. The Master’s programs in “Food Science and Engineering,” “Food Biotechnology,” “Food Systems,” and “Food Chemistry” were assessed. Earlier this year, students rated the Bachelor’s programs as excellent. Out of all the subjects offered at the University of Hohenheim, each year only some degree programs are assessed. Rankings are updated in a three-year cycle. The majority of Hohenheim’s degree programs – such as those in agricultural sciences – are not ranked by CHE. Selected results will appear in the 22 Nov 2022 edition of the magazine for students, ZEIT Campus. The full results can already be viewed here: www.zeit.de/ranking and www.uni-hohenheim.de/en/rankings

With top marks for research orientation and the number of doctorates per professor, the Institute of Food Science and Biotechnology stands out as a springboard for careers in science or business.

Its ranking in the top group for research orientation reflects very good opportunities to conduct in-depth research as part of a Master’s degree and come into contact with important and innovative research findings. It is usually this scientific work that sparks the desire to do a doctorate. Here too, the University of Hohenheim ranks in the top group for the number of doctorates awarded each year.

CHE bases its assessment of degree programs on objective data about the program, teaching, and facilities, as well as on students’ opinions.

Information about the degree programs

BACKGROUND: CHE university rankings According to their own information, the CHE university rankings are the most comprehensive and detailed comparison of universities in German-speaking countries. Since 1998, over 140 universities and more than 250 universities of applied sciences (Fachhochschulen) and universities of cooperative education (Berufsakademien) have been included in the CHE university rankings. CHE places study programs in the field of food science and biotechnology in the category of “Mechanical / Materials / Process Engineering”. The latest rankings are based on the opinions of around 10,000 Master’s students plus additional objective criteria. CHE does not assign rank placements to individual universities like other rankings, but instead assigns universities to the top, middle, or bottom group.
