Football Cup

Passion and team spirit await all football-loving students and staff at the University of Hohenheim at the Hohenheim Football Cup.

The Football Cup has been held as a small field tournament in the summer semester since 2010 and is one of the sporting highlights at the University of Hohenheim. Up to 16 teams compete for victory here, with a focus on fair play.

The matches in the preliminary round and the finals are played over two halves of fifteen minutes each. The matches are played on small fields according to the rules of the WFV with 7 field players and a goalkeeper.

How to participate

  • Participation is limited to 16 teams.
  • Only students and employees of the University of Hohenheim can participate
  • The venue is the grass field in the university stadium
  • A team consists of a maximum of 12 players, who must be named in a player list before the tournament – mixed teams are welcome!
  • The game is played with 7 field players + goalkeeper

Registration

Registration is possible at the beginning of the summer semester  online via our homepage or in person at the Sports Office.

1. Fun

Having fun is the most important rule!!! We need to keep that in mind in any competitive situation. Respectful treatment of all participants is a basic requirement for participation in the Hohenheim Football Cup. Even though it’s a competition, the game should be characterized by fairness, honesty, and fun.

2. Team

  • The game is played with 7 field players and 1 goalkeeper.
  • Each player must be a member (student or employee) of the University of Hohenheim and may only be registered in one team.

3. Rules of the game and differences to regular football games

The WFV rules for small-field football tournaments apply, with the following exceptions:

  • It is played on small fields.
  • The duration of the game is 2 x 15 minutes.
  • Players can be substituted in and out as often as required. The substitution must take place at the height of the center line of the small field. The substitute may not enter the field until the substituted player has left the field.
  • The back pass rule applies, i.e., the goalkeeper may not touch a back pass with their hand.
  • The offside rule does not apply.
  • All free kicks must be taken indirectly.
