Five buildings with 250 units: On the north edge of campus, an entire residence hall complex is currently being built (Egilolfstr. 41 - 45). Interior construction is in process. Planned opening date: End of 2018.
Before the construction work began, the University and Student Services had to do a lot of convincing with local residents. In the fall of 2016, the residents tried to prevent the construction of the residence hall with a petition.
The new construction was made possible thanks to the Master Plan 2030 for Construction and Mobility. In the plan, the city, state, and University agreed on possible construction sites on the historical campus.
Another 60 residence hall spaces are currently being built at Welfenstraße 80 on the property of the former GENO Academy. Here, the Student Services took over the former conference hotel. Planned opening date after renovation work: 2019
The 60 new spots in the Welfenstraße will compensate for the loss of 60 residence hall spots in the former Bauernschule. These rooms had previously only been rented. The landlord terminated the rental agreement as of 30 September 2018.
That means that the total number of additional residence hall spots is around 250.
