Information about internships

Nutritional Management and Dietetics (B.Sc.)

In the Bachelor’s program Nutritional Management and Dietetics, all students must complete an internship lasting at least 4 weeks.

Minimum duration of the internship

  • 4 weeks
  • The internship should not be interrupted and must be full-time.
(for an exception, see “Recognition of Work-Study Positions”)

Where should the internship be done?

The professional internship can be done at all private and public institutions in Germany and abroad that are suited to teaching students about the practical tasks in the professional field of nutritional management and dietetics.

In general, the professional internship should not be done at the University of Hohenheim’s nutritional science institutes.

Approval from the Internship Office!

Have your internship approved by the Internship Office beforehand!

Proof

To receive credit for your internship, you must submit the following documents to the Internship Office:

  • Original acknowledgement from your employer
  • Internship report

    • ca. 1500-3000 words
    • General description of traineeship
General description of the enterprise and the department in which you did your training
    • Description of personal responsibilities
It should be clear what your tasks were and which processes you became familiar with. In addition to a description of your tasks, the information regarding the scientific aspects of your work and, if possible, a concrete example for what was achieved should be included.
    • Summary and rating of the traineeship

  • Proof that the internship report was read by your employer. The summary need not be shown to your employer.

Recognition of part-time internships and work-study positions

  •  4 weeks of the internship can be credited through part-time internships or  work-study positions.
  • Proof of a part-time internship or working student activity with at least 10 hours of work per week must be provided.
  • You must prove that you have worked a total of 160 hours in the same company.

Special case: mandatory and elective internship in the same company (at least 8 weeks in a row)

If the compulsory and elective internships are carried out in the same company, you must write an internship report (6 credits) for it to be recognized as a mandatory internship.

In order to be recognized as an elective module, you must then also present your internship position in the internship seminar led by Prof. Frank and the Internship Office (6 credits).

The entire process is handled by the Internship Office. The internship seminar takes place every semester at the end of the lecture period (January and June/July).

Here are some tips for the presentation:

The presentation should last about 10-15 minutes. In terms of content, you should present your internship, that is, you can orient yourself on the requirements for the internship report. First you introduce the company in general, then your activities (that should be the largest part), and finally draw a conclusion.

A PowerPoint presentation is fine (bring a USB stick). You do not need a handout or write-up of the presentation. It is also always interesting for those present if you also talk about information not related to the content of your job.. This means: How did you find the internship? What was the application process like? Did you get paid for your internship? How was the supervision? ...
