Abstract

In this work, the air flow and temperature distribution of a conventional longan dryer was investigated. An experiment was carried out to identity the areas with low air flow and low temperature. The information obtained from this investigation was used as a guideline for the improvement of the air flow and temperature distribution. To improve the air flow distribution, air guides were placed to distribute air to the areas with low flow. The space under the perforated floor of the dryer was enlarged to allow better distribution of the drying air. This improved dryer was tested. The results obtained from the test showed that longans were dried uniformly.
