The roots of V. brachycalyx afforded 2 new coumarins and the known ethuliacoumarin. From the leaf ext. of this plant was isolated the sesquiterpene lactones, brachycalyxolide and it's cyclic ether deriv. The structures were elucidated using 1H- and 13C-NMR, HSQC, HMQC and mass spectroscopy.
