Bud exudates of 5 Fijian Gardenia species, G. gordonii, G. grievi, G. hillii, G. storckii, and G. taitensis contain the rare flavonoid, 6-methoxy-3-O-methylkaempferol. 3-O-Methylkaempferol has been isolated from all except G. taitensis. The Fijian Gardenia species examd. were found to be significantly different from the Asian Gardenia species.
