Welcome Week for international students

We’re happy you’ve decided to study or undertake an exchange program at the University of Hohenheim!

The University of Hohenheim’s Office of International Affairs offers various presentations, workshops, and events on study organization and orientation on campus at the start of the semester. Take the opportunity to get to know your fellow students and find out about studying in Hohenheim, residence permits, and much more.

Please note: The Welcome Week is designed for international students who are pursuing full-time studies (degree seekers), a semester abroad (exchange students), or a self-organized semester stay (free movers) at the University of Hohenheim.

All events will be held in English.

Preparatory information

To help you get off to a successful start in Hohenheim, we have compiled an overview of important links for the start of your studies.

To make your start in Hohenheim a little easier, we have put together a few helpful tips for you in our Welcome Guide. Here you will find all the important steps you should take shortly before and shortly after your arrival.

For each Master's program there are welcome and introductory events either before the semester or during the lecture period.

We continue to see great added value in holding some information events digitally. This way you can participate in our events even if you are still in your home country.

You do not need to register for our online events. After the sessions, you can find all presentations here on ILIAS. We do not record our events.

ILIAS tutorial

In this tutorial, you will get to know the most important functions of the learning platform ILIAS, e.g. how to join courses and get access to course materials and assignments, or how you can touch base with course instructors and other people on the course.

Please note: Participation is strongly recommended.

HohCampus Tutorial

Here you will learn everything about the most important functions of HohCampus, e.g. how to register for exams or cancel your registration, how to manage your documents, and how to keep track of your study progress.

Kick-Off: Welcome to Hohenheim

Start of the Welcome Week: The Office of International Affairs welcomes you and introduces itself. In this event, you will learn more about the central contact points at the Office of International Affairs and at the university. You can also clarify any questions you may have.

We have summarized the most important facts about life in Hohenheim for you. Here you will not only learn helpful things about your student ID or the local transport network, but you will also find out more about the learning agreement.

Meet the SpraZ: Language Center

You want to polish up your foreign language skills? Learning German is something you definitely want to do while you study in Germany? Want to add another skill to your resume? Here you will learn everything about the resources you can find in Hohenheim to improve your language skills alongside your studies.

StudentLife! Your guide to life away from the lecture halls

Do you want to get the most out of your student life? Do you know where the cheapest places to shop are, which places are popular after lectures, and how you can actively participate in campus life? Then this is the right place for you!

At StudentLife!, you can find out everything about life outside the lecture halls – from everyday tips to the best ways to make your time in Hohenheim unforgettable. Our special guest, the Green Office, also invites you to an interactive workshop on waste separation (believe us, this will become important in Hohenheim sooner than you think!).

Look forward to a relaxed atmosphere with warm drinks, tasty snacks, and plenty of opportunities to get to know your fellow students!

Campus tours

The International Students Organization (ISO) will guide you through the campus and show you the most important and of course also the most picturesque places on the most beautiful campus in the world (we think ☺ ).

Between tours, you will have the opportunity to network with your fellow students over coffee and tea.

Learn about the two libraries on campus, how to borrow media, use the copier, or where to find quiet study spaces.

Stuttgart tour: The city center

We accompany you on a 2-hour guided tour through Stuttgart, the capital of Baden-Württemberg, where you get the interesting information about your new place of residence and get to see the most important corners of the city center.  
We will meet in Hohenheim and take public transportation together into Stuttgart. After the tour, you can stay in the city with your fellow students or travel back to campus with us.

Stuttgart tour: Discover the Bohnenviertel

Many people know Schlossplatz and Königstraße, but do you know the Bohnenviertel? With its many antique stores, artists’ studios, cozy cafés, and quaint wine taverns, the district exudes charm and history!

Let yourself be guided through the Bohnenviertel and experience the charming side of Stuttgart on this one-hour tour.

We will meet in Hohenheim and take public transportation together into Stuttgart. After the tour, you can stay in the city with your fellow students and embark on the search for treasure in the countless stores, or travel back to campus with us.

9 April 2025 | 6:45–8:30 p.m. | Meeting point: Bus stop “Universität Hohenheim”

TV Tower Sunset Tour

The Stuttgart TV Tower was the first TV tower in the world and offers a great view over Stuttgart, the capital of Baden-Württemberg. From 216 meters above the ground, you will get to know your new home from a bird’s eye view.

If you are not already on the hike to and from the Teehaus with ISO, we will meet you in Hohenheim and take you to the TV tower. Afterwards, we go up to the viewing platform together and enjoy the view of Stuttgart and the surrounding area in the glow of the setting sun. Charge your smartphone, because there is a lot of potential for great photos here!

Campus Tour for Late Arrivals

The International Student Organization (ISO) will guide you around the campus and show you the most important lecture halls and facilities just in time for the start of the semester. The tour also won’t leave out the most beautiful spots on the most beautiful campus in the world (we think so, anyway ☺). But see for yourself!
