Research institutions

There is a great potential for successful cutting-edge research when different disciplines and institutions collaborate. The University of Hohenheim has therefore established various institutions whose structures enable joint research and teaching activities, thus creating the optimal conditions for conducting outstanding research and then transferring it outside of the university.

Science Hubs

Science Hubs serve as a forum for targeted multi-, inter- or transdisciplinary collaboration. The aim is to open up new, interdisciplinary research fields across faculties, with high strategic relevance for the Hohenheim research profile. In this way, they complement the classical university structure, which is indispensable for the organization of disciplinary expertise. The Hohenheim Science Hubs offer scientists from at least five different disciplines from several faculties or institutes space to work together flexibly and proactively. For this purpose, the university provides personnel and space resources for a certain period of time upon request.

Competence centers and research centers

Competence centers and research centers are dedicated to specific research questions and pool the respective expertise. They are linked in an interdisciplinary way within the University or with external cooperation partners.

State institutes (Landesanstalten)

The state institutes located on the Hohenheim campus serve as transmission belts from university research to applied practice by taking on tasks of public consulting and research transfer in addition to their own research.  They are jointly operated by the state of Baden-Württemberg and the university and are fully integrated into university operations.
