There are often several steps to go through when applying for funding.
This is intended to limit the workload for all parties involved, by ensuring that only projects with good chances of funding need to be fully developed and reviewed.
For the first stage, a shorter project outline must first be submitted.
On the basis of the submitted outlines, the funding organization makes a preliminary selection and invites the selected applicants to submit a complete project proposal (2nd stage).
Multi-stage processes may also include in-person interviews, on-site assessments, or other selection processes .
Please note that you cannot revise any specifications made in the outline, e.g. regarding the budget, in the full proposal. Therefore, you should plan the outline as well and realistically as possible.
Time until approval
The duration of the process from submission to possible project start can take several months. In the case of DFG individual funding, for example, approx. 5-6 months must be expected. Planning for major consortia applications can take several years.
Early start of measures
In principle, it is forbidden to start work on a project for which you have submitted an application before the grant period specified in the grant notice.
However, exceptions are possible:
If the formal approval is delayed, this is not the fault of the applicant and the execution of the project cannot be justifiably waited for.
Upon application, the funding agency may then allow the project to begin early.
Permission for the early start of the project should be submitted in writing .
We will be happy to assist you with scheduling and contacting the funding agency/project management agency.
