The training program to become an office manager is organized as part of Germany's dual system of vocational training. This means that trainees take theoretical classes at a vocational school (Louis Leitz Schule, Stuttgart-Feuerbach) on 1.5 days per week.
In the remaining time, practical and theoretical skills are acquired at the workplace.
Trainees progress through the following departments and institutions:
- Department of Media & Marketing
(Press Center, Media & Marketing) - Department of Academic Affairs
(Registrar’s Office, Examinations Office, Central Student Counselling Center, Student Information Center) - Office of International Affairs
- Construction and Property Management Department
(Construction, Property, Lecture Hall and Palace Room Management) - Human Resources Department
(Staff and Central Registry, Staff Budget and Staff Planning, Labor and Collective Bargaining Law inclduing student and academic assistants, Staffing Plan, Human Resources and Organizational Development, Travel Expenses) - Finance Department
(Budgeting and Third-Party Funding Issues, Central Purchasing, Accounting and Transactions) - Technics and Domestic Services Department
- Research Centers
- Front offices of Institutes and Faculties
Trainees progress through these departments / institutions in intervals of one or more months.
During their training, trainees attend in-house seminars to supplement their vocational school education and to enhance their hands-on learning.
The final examination consists of two parts (#1 and #2), which are taken at different times. Trainees take final examination #1 after completing half of their training. Final examination #2 (written and oral) takes place at the end of the training program. Examinations are administered by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
