No animal experiments if there are alternatives. This commitment is not only a part of the University of Hohenheim’s guidelines, it is also a legal requirement.
Animal experiments are only approved if the applicant proves that neither the literature nor databases show evidence of a similar experiment, that there are not alternative methods available, and that everything was done to minimize the number of and stress on the animals (3R principle). The University of Hohenheim’s Animal Welfare Officer and the Regional Council monitor this.
The University of Hohenheim uses a series of alternatives in research and teaching to replace or reduce animal experiments.
