Applying for Communication Management and Analysis
You must upload the following application documents during the online application process:
- University entrance qualification (e.g. Abitur)
If you do not have a German university entrance qualification: Proof of German language proficiency - Certificate and transcript of records from the Bachelor's degree/first degree in a social science (e.g. communication science, psychology, sociology).
If you have not yet completed your first degree program: Please mark the current grade point average in your transcript of records or send us proof of the current grade point average of your previous achievements issued by the university. - Transcript of records that includes the individual courses in your first degree including the title, number of credits, and grade achieved.
- If you do not have a German university entrance qualification and did not study English in the upper secondary school levels:Proof of English language proficiency (at least B2). You can find an overview of which certificates are recognized on the English language skills page.
You may be admitted to the Master’s program in Communication Management and Analysis only if you fulfill the following prerequisites.
Bachelor's degree or at least three-year university degree in a social science field with a grade of "good" (2.5) or better You must have completed a Bachelor's degree or a comparable university degree program of at least three years in social sciences (especially communication sciences, sociology, psychology, political science) with a university degree of at least good (2.5) or equivalent. A degree program in the social sciences is recognized if it has at least 70 credits from modules or courses that focus on social science theories, methods, and findings. |
Courses in the area of social scientific methodology totaling at least 15 credits. Courses will be counted as “social science methodology” if the title indicates that they deal with knowledge and competencies in one of the following areas:
Basic knowledge of quantitative research methods and/or statistics is recommended. In addition, courses will be counted as “social science methodology” if additional knowledge on social science methods was conveyed by carrying out independent empirical research even though this is not evident in the title of the course. In this case, an additional description must state what knowledge of social science methodology was conveyed in which of the areas mentioned above.. Carrying out empirical research without learning additional methodological competencies in the context of research and final theses or in other courses in which social science methods are primarily applied do not count as courses in social science methodology! |
Language skills A sufficient knowledge of German and English is required for admission. If you have not obtained your higher education entrance qualification at a German school, you must prove your German language skills. If you do not have a German university entrance qualification or did not take English in the upper levels of your secondary education (gymnasiale Oberstufe), then you must show proof of your English language proficiency (at least B2). For the first subject-related semester
If the number of applications exceeds the number of available university places, the admissions committee will calculate a total grade for application selection made up of:
- the grade of the university degree with a weighting of 70%,
- a value expressed as a grade for (professional) practical activities in the area of communication science with a weighting of 30%,

For higher subject-related semesters
If there are more applications than available places, a ranking list will be made. This ranking list is based on only one criterion:
- Recognized work from the previously started Master’s program
No, that is unfortunately not possible.
The admission committee will check the documents once the application is submitted. A previous evaluation of the documents is not possible. You can read the detailed admission requirements in the admission regulations.
You can make up modules before the end of the application period.
We take into consideration voluntary additional modules (e.g. statistics) that you have completed by the application deadline.
It is not possible to complete modules in the field of social science methodology after the application deadline. Proof of your knowledge must be available by the application deadline.
