The University of Hohenheim is aware that in the case of some of its honorees who were honored during the National Socialist era, but also subsequently, connections to the Nazi regime cannot always be ruled out and in some cases are quite probable. In the context of coming to terms with the Nazi Era the university sees itself as responsible for identifying incriminated persons, places, and objects and for critically dealing with its past.
The honoring of persons who, with today's knowledge, can be shown to be close to National Socialism is part of the university's history. Even if these honors would no longer be made from today's perspective, it is essential in the interest of transparency not to erase them from Hohenheim's historical record. For this reason, people with connections to the Nazi regime are also shown on these pages and a reference is made to their connections.
According to the prevailing legal opinion, the honor expires with the death of the honored person. Therefore, the honorary title of deceased persons can no longer be withdrawn. Nevertheless, it is important to the university to draw attention to this dark part of its history and thus to distance itself from connections of some of its honorees with the Nazi regime. The University of Hohenheim regrets that honors were awarded to people with connections to the Nazi regime and sees it as an important obligation to further investigate the role of its honorees in National Socialism.
