What has to happen to lose the right to take the exam?
When you enroll in a degree program, you automatically have the right to take examinations in this degree program. The legal basis for this is the examination regulations applicable to your degree program.
As long as you stay within the rules set out in the examination regulations for your degree program, you can successfully complete your studies. It is therefore important to keep the following rules in mind:
- Deadlines
- Orientation examination (Orientierungsprüfung), if applicable
- Intermediate examination (Zwischenprüfung), if applicable
- Final deadline for the degree program, i.e. the maximum permitted duration of study
- Maximum possible number of times to take module assessments
- Maximum possible number of times to repeat the final thesis
Accordingly, you may lose the right to take examinations for your degree program if you do not or cannot comply with the rules.
Detailed information on the rules for your degree program can be found on the Examinations Office website.
Special regulations due to the Covid-19 pandemic
If you were enrolled in summer semester 2020, winter semester 2020/21, summer semester 2021, and/or winter semester 2021/22, the deadlines specified in the examination regulations for your degree program (orientation examination, intermediate examination, maximum permitted duration of study) will be extended by one semester in each case—but by a maximum of three semesters in total.
