Conditions for registration and participation in the Language Center courses

Who is eligible to participate?

  • University of Hohenheim students and staff
  • If places are still available, students from the cooperating universities of the Tübingen-Hohenheim university region and the Universities of Stuttgart and Ulm will also be admitted
  • In exceptional cases and if they are admitted by the Director of the Language Center, other people may be admitted as guests.

For which courses do these conditions apply?

  • These rules apply to all of the Language Center’s regular semester courses and the SPRAZakademie.
  • Separate conditions apply for the intensive holiday courses “German in the land of Porsche and Schiller”. These can be found on the information page for the respective courses.

How can I register?

Registration is required for all courses! The exact registration periods (beginning and end of the lecture period) and other requirements will be announced separately.

The following is required for registration:

  • Proof of my language skills (placement test (results are available to us) or certificate from the previous course), except for beginner courses.
  • Proof of my university affiliation (e.g. student ID, institute certificate).
  • Transfer of the course fee by the deadline.

The necessary documents have to be brought to registration and have to be presented additionally at the beginning of the course. If you register online, you will need to present them at the first course date. Your registration cannot be transferred to another person.

1. Online registration

For students of the University of Hohenheim:

  • University of Hohenheim students register for the courses online. If you do not agree with the storage of your data, you must register in person at the Language Center. Course information and access to registration can be found at spraz.uni-hohenheim.de
  • The payment mode for the course fee can be found in the registration confirmation. It is essential to enter the purposes 1 and 2 stated there when transferring the fee. The fee must be transferred to the University of Hohenheim's account within three business days after registration. Otherwise your spot in the course will be canceled.
  • It is possible to register for several courses, although you may not exceed a total of eight weekly contact hours (SWS). Important: A separate bank transfer is required for each course!
  • If it turns out after the start of the course that the admission requirements have not been met, the participant concerned will be excluded from participation in the course. Any reimbursement of course fees is subject to §5 of the Fee Regulations (Official Notices of the University of Hohenheim No. 1100/16).

 
For University of Hohenheim staff:

University of Hohenheim staff members register for the courses online (if nothing else is noted). Course information and access to registration can be found at spraz.uni-hohenheim.de The same registration conditions apply as for students.

2. Registration in person

Students of cooperating universities as well as guests

  • must register in person.
  • For details and dates, please refer to the respective notices or the information at spraz.uni-hohenheim.de
  • Students who study in joint courses at other universities and the University of Hohenheim can enroll at the same time as students at the University of Hohenheim. For organizational reasons, they must register in person.

What happens at the beginning of the course?

Please be sure to bring the following with you to the first course session:

  • proof of registration
  • proof of university membership
  • the payment receipt

If you do not bring these documents, you may have to be excluded from the course.

  • If you do not attend the first session without excuse, you lose your right to the course place if the course is overbooked. Persons on the waiting list will be notified and can move up. Please send your excuse for an absence by email to the Language Center (spraz@verwaltung.uni-hohenheim.de with the subject line "excused absence for course X"), especially for courses that are in high demand.
  • It is only possible to change courses within the first 14 days after consultation with the Language Center.

For all courses: only those who are present 80% of the time and pass the required exams will receive a certificate of achievement.

Course fees

The Language Center charges the following course fees:

  • Students (MA, BA, Diplom), doctoral candidates (with student ID): € 12.50 per weekly contact hour (SWS)
  • Staff (without student ID): € 25 per weekly contact hour (SWS)
  • Guests: after admission by the Director of the Language Center € 50 per weekly contact hour

If a course is cancelled by the Language Center, any fees paid will be refunded. Everything else is regulated by the Fee Regulations from 23 May 2016.

Right to Object

First and last name, date of birth/matriculation number, course, and grade are stored for a further four semesters from the end of the semester in which the course is completed. This makes it possible for you to automatically check whether compulsory preliminary courses have been attended or whether examination work has been carried out when you register again. It also enables you to be issued with certificates of attendance or transcripts up to 2 years after the end of the course.

If you object to the storage, your course data will be deleted after the end of the semester following the language course. In this case, the University of Hohenheim will not be able to issue you with a second certificate. You are free at any time to make use of the possibility of objecting and to declare this in writing to the Language Center of the University of Hohenheim.

With reference to §§ 21, 22 LDSG, you have the right, upon request and free of charge, to receive information about the data stored about you by the University of Hohenheim and to demand its correction in the event of incorrect stored data. Please send a written request for information or correction to the data protection officer of the University of Hohenheim.
