Cytotoxic components from the bark of Stauranthus perforatus from Monteverde, Costa Rica

The crude dichloromethane ext. of Stauranthus perforatus stem bark showed in-vitro cytotoxic activity against Hep-G2 (human hepatocellular carcinoma) and MDA-MB-231 (human mammary adenocarcinoma) cells. The cytotoxic compds. proved to be the quinoline alkaloids skimmianine and veprisine, and the furocoumarin heraclenin. Other compds. isolated included .beta.-sitosterol, isopimpinellin, and xanthotoxin
