Part-time jobs during studies

Around two-thirds of students in Germany have part-time jobs according to the 21st social survey by the German National Association for Student Affairs (DSW, 2016). Part-time jobs can help students to finance their studies and, if they fit with the content of the degree program, they also gain additional practical experience and make contacts with potential employers.

Statements

Taner Pula (M.Sc. Molecular Nutritional Science, B.Sc. Nutritional Science)

“Working in addition to studying not only gave me enough money to live, it also directly - and sometimes indirectly - gave me soft skills that I use daily even today.”

Andre Velte (Master’s in Management, B.Sc. Business Administration and Economics)

“If you don’t want to just consume knowledge at the University of Hohenheim but also want to actively engage with the content of your degree program, you should take a look behind the scenes. As a tutor, you can learn the content more in-depth, pass it on, and at the same time improve your presentation skills in a challenging environment.”

Konstantin Bradke (B.Sc. Agricultural Biology)

“A great team and, in the best case it is work that gives you experience you can use in your studies. The pay is then really only secondary.”

Andreas Posselt (Head of HR Management Agriculture Segment BayWa AG)

“As a working student, young talents get the opportunity to gain practical experience during their degree program and make professional contacts.”

Michael Hyllan (HR Director CLAAS KGaA mbH)

“Being a working student is a valuable addition to theoretical studies. With practical experience, you get a real feeling for what your desired profession looks like in reality, you can talk to colleagues, and get important ideas for your professional future.”

Dr. Julia Titze (Senior Consultant with ITB Consulting GmbH)

“The best tip I can give: During your studies, carefully choose working student jobs or internships to get insights into the professional world. That is so much more valuable than completing your program as fast as possible.”
