Social media

Traditional press relations have changed dramatically over the past ten years with the success of social media. Networking on Instagram, Bluesky, LinkedIn, etc. via the channels of the University of Hohenheim makes it possible for you to present and disseminate your topics to specific target groups. The university's social media editorial team can help you find the right channel for your content.

Depending on the channel, the focus is on different target groups and topics. The social media editors help you to assign your topics to the right target groups. Please contact them in good time to clarify which criteria apply to which channel and which content / media (incl. image rights) may be required.

Instagram

The University of Hohenheim’s Instagram channel is aimed at students, prospective students, and pupils and serves as a "window into the university."

In addition to colorful topics from science, campus life, or special personalities and achievements, the focus is also on the degree programs and other student topics such as elections or rankings.

They are communicated in the form of a feed post, a reel, a story, or even a LIVE broadcast.

TikTok

TikTok is a platform for short videos that focuses on creative, entertaining content and viral trends. With its algorithm-driven discovery page, TikTok promotes the rapid distribution of content even to users who do not follow its own channel. The focus of the Hohenheim channel is currently on student marketing with the target group of school students, prospective students, and Bachelor students. The Chinese technology group ByteDance is behind the service.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is characterized by a high level of interaction and, is the largest social network at the University of Hohenheim.

As a primarily professionally oriented network, the University of Hohenheim’s LinkedIn page is also aimed at alumni, academics, professionals, interested parties, and companies.

In the categories Science, Events, Ranking, and News, Our Professors, Mobility, and Alumni, the university shows its topics related to startups and scientific projects. Its job advertisements also present it as an attractive employer. With information on events, lectures, and seminars in the event calendar, the community is always up to date on activities in Hohenheim.

BlueSky

Short, up-to-date, and to the point: BlueSky focuses on the target groups of the press, politics, the scientific community, and stakeholders who want to be informed in a meaningful way in just a few characters.

Press releases about research topics, event announcements, topics from university politics, but also visits of high-ranking politicians and achievements of our researchers are posted or shared on this decentralized platform.

Mastodon

With just 366 followers so far, Mastodon is the newest and smallest social network at the University of Hohenheim, but has been gaining in importance nationally and internationally since Elon Musk's X takeover (formerly known as Twitter).

Press releases, events, or topics from university policy are communicated here to the target groups of politicians, journalists, data protection officers, and public institutions.

Mastodon has what it refers to as “instances,” and is characterized by an active and topic-specific community.

Threads

Instagram Threads is the latest alternative to X and is also gaining in importance. Unlike X, however, Threads focuses much more on interaction.

The University of Hohenheim is currently testing this channel as an alternative to X, analogous to Bluesky and Mastodon. At the moment, however, it is not possible to make any statements about the further development of the network and the community; the channel must be monitored and the content adapted if necessary.

YouTube

The YouTube account of the University of Hohenheim has almost 3,000 subscribers. As the second largest search engine after Google, the YouTube Channel targets students, prospective students, and the general public interested in science.

In addition to image and degree program films, the numerous playlists have much to offer those interested: Selected podcasts from the university, lectures, impressions of festivities on campus, information about the start of studies, and science news videos on the topics of the university such as bioeconomy – this and much more can be found in the more than 400 videos.

WhatsApp

WhatsApp has long been more than just a messenger – with its channels, the platform offers an easy way to receive up-to-date information directly to your cell phone. The University of Hohenheim uses the WhatsApp channel in a targeted manner to provide prospective students with important information quickly and easily.

Whether application deadlines, tips on choosing a program or insights into campus life – prospective students can get everything they need to know about studying directly on their smartphone. In addition, our WhatsApp chat is available for questions about choosing a program, admission requirements, application and much more.

Facebook

Even though Facebook has been driven out of the center of power over the years by new networks like Instagram and X (commonly referred to by its former name Twitter), the heart of the Meta corporation is still the social network with the most users. The University of Hohenheim uses the reach of its pages in German and English and addresses all university members, alumni, international students and staff, and the interested public.

Mainly events are communicated here, but also political visits and other information for the international general public find their place on these pages.

X (inactive)

The University of Hohenheim's X account has been in dormant status since January 2025. Bluesky, Mastodon, and Threads are being tested as alternatives.

X (formerly known as Twitter) focussed on the target groups of the press, politics, the scientific community, and stakeholders who want to be informed in a meaningful way in just a few characters.

Press releases about research topics, event announcements, topics from university politics, but also visits of high-ranking politicians and achievements of our researchers were posted or shared on this platform with more than 4,000 followers.
