Become active

You want to communicate the topics of your institute or field independently and interact with your community? We have compiled the most important guidelines and tips for yout.

Basic information

Communicating via social networks takes time and stamina.
Make sure in your team that you are up to taking on the additional workload. If you are not able to provide regular contributions, it is always possible and advisable to contact the University of Hohenheim's social media editorial team and work with our editors to plan and produce your content and communicate it on the university's channels.

This is what you need to pay attention to:

Profile picture
Your own, self-created logos, pictures, or collages do not correspond to the corporate design of the University of Hohenheim and may not be used in the profile picture. Social media templates for university-affiliated institutions are provided by the university on its homepage.

Legal notice / Data protection
When creating your own account, the information on data protection and a reference to the legal notice of the University of Hohenheim must be linked in the profile information: https://www.uni-hohenheim.de/en/disclaimer

Image and copyright
The right to one's own image also plays an important role, especially in the social media space.
Always make sure you have the rights to publish on social media, both from the people pictured and the photographer(s). This is done with the help of declarations of consent or transfer.
Even with purchased images, you should always pay attention to the usage rights and make sure that they are also available for use in social media. We do not recommend the use of "free" images.
University-owned images can also always be found in our photo archive. Again, always make sure that the images may be used for social media. You will find a reference to the rights of use in the image information under “Anweisungen”.

More tips:

Linktr.ee: In most cases, it is only possible to set just one link in the profile information and this is usually occupied with the reference to the legal notice / data protection policy. The free service from linktr.ee provides more flexibility here. With Linktr:ee you have the possibility to combine several links in one single link and thus to additionally link to the department page or an event, for example. You can find an example on the Instagram profile of the University of Hohenheim: www.instagram.com/unihohenheim/

Hashtags / adds: Using appropriate hashtags and channels to add to can increase reach more quickly and effectively. Use meaningful and topic-related hashtags – but be careful how many are "desired" by the respective network! For example, LinkedIn rewards the use of up to 5 hashtags, while a maximum of 30 are allowed on an Instagram post. Find out exactly what is possible in advance.
Our tip: Add the University of Hohenheim (@unihohenheim) and use the already established hashtag #UniHohenheim. With the add, the university will be aware of your post and can share it in its own story or timeline. And with the hashtag, your posts also show up in the corresponding hashtag search and can thus be found by potential followers and interested parties.

Regular content: The more active you are, the more and regular you post, the more the algorithms of social networks are stimulated and your content is suggested to interested people. Reliable, regular posts also build trust with your own community and are essential to firmly establishing yourself and consistently increasing your reach. Consider carefully whether you have enough staff capacity and time to produce quality posts on a regular basis.
