Program for October 2021

Topic of the month:

Food security - Healthy food for everyone

Sustainable and at the same time profitable agriculture is an important goal of a bio-based economy. It is essential to secure food supplies for the world's population - and research provides an important basis for this. To this end, it develops modern agricultural systems, for example, and also takes a close look at the future path of food.
Off-topic events complement the main focus.

Unless otherwise noted, all events are held in German.

For all curious students who want to get involved in environmental and nature conservation and are looking for input, inspiration, and ideas!

The biodiversity experts Marina Moser and Claudia Köcher-Aust from the Initiative Bunte Wiese Stuttgart, the University of Hohenheim, and the Natural History Museum Stuttgart offer you the opportunity to dive into the exciting world of insects with the online workshop "Ausgesummt - 5 Dinge, die jeder gegen das Insektensterben tun kann" ("Buzzed out - 5 things that everyone can do to combat insects dying out"), give suggestions on how everyone can protect native insects and enable an exchange and joint development of ideas.

The event is part of the creative competition FUTURE MADE BY YOU. This competition was launched by the University of Hohenheim as part of the Bioeconomy Science Year 2020/21 and calls on young people to show their ideas for species, nature, and environmental protection.

Ideas generated during the workshop may be submitted for the creative competition and have a chance to win one of the prizes!

Register, join us at the workshop, and be sure to spread the word!

The University of Hohenheim is organizing the Hohenheim Talks About the Future as part of the Science Year 2020/21 "Bioeconomy". The next event in the series will be held on 14 October from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on the topic:

Should meat be off the global menu?

We consume around 70 kilograms of meat on average per year (Fleischatlas 2021, Böll Foundation) - the equivalent of around 350 steaks. Yet simply halving our meat consumption could sustainably protect the future of our planet and our health.

What would happen if we all gave up meat? Does this make sense for everyone? How can people be better educated and thus made fit for a conscious change in diet? Would that satisfy the world’s hunger? And is the environmental impact actually lower?

Anyone interested is invited to participate in our online discussion!

Speakers include

  • Dr. Beate Gebhardt
University of Hohenheim, Department of Agricultural Markets
Head of BEST (Business Excellence and Sustainability Transformation) Initiative
  • Dirk Liebenberg
    ProVeg e.V.
Senior Food Industry & Retail Project Manager

Oktober 2021 in Nürnberg. Insgesamt legt die MS Wissenschaft in 31 Städte an.
