The “Long Lake” was artificially made even before 1775 in order to counteract the lack of water in the lord’s garden. It was surrounded by a double row of willows and poplars. On the lake was a ship bound to the shore with a pier.
The ship was a “Venetian gondola” that was delivered on 30 April 1785 and set up for pleasure rides on the lake. The covered middle section was painted by court painter Nikolaus von Thouret in 1788.
In the 19th century, students used the sea for bathing. Today it is only a fraction of its original size.
