Become a research and communication expert!

The program is divided into four areas: the foundational Master's area, the specialization area, the free elective area, and the Master's thesis.

In the foundational area of Management & Strategy, you can deepen your knowledge in areas of communication management as well as business administration and economics that are helpful for successfully managing communication.
In the foundational area of Analysis & Evaluation, communication science and data analysis methods are taught that you will also need later in your career, e.g., in strategy planning or when evaluating communication measures.

The core of the degree program is the specialization area. For your specialization, you choose two projects and four seminars from the fields of corporate communication, political communication, and knowledge communication. The projects and seminars challenge you academically and prepare you for your future career.
Finally, you can sharpen your individual skills profile in the free elective area by choosing three of the modules offered by the faculty. In addition, credits from modules taken abroad or language and further education courses can be counted in this area.

Your degree program concludes with a 6-month Master's thesis. You can find information on the individual modules in the module catalog.

What you should bring with you!

Do you have a Bachelor's degree in social sciences and want to expand your analytical and practical skills while discussing current issues relating to public communication? Then the Communication Management and Analysis Master’s degree program is the right choice for you.


Admission requirements

  • Good university degree: Overall grade of 2.5 or better
  • Previous studies in social science: Completion of a Bachelor's or comparable degree (e.g., communication science, sociology, psychology) with at least 70 ECTS credits in social science modules
  • Social science methods: Proof of at least 15 ECTS credits in social science methodology (e.g., quantitative/qualitative research methods, statistics)
  • Language skills: If you did not obtain your university entrance qualification at a German school, you must provide proof of German (level: C1 or equivalent) and English (level: B2 or higher) language skills.

Selection procedure: Ranking according to...

  • Overall grade of the university degree: 70 percent
  • Practical work experience (e.g., internships): 30 percent

You should have the following interests and knowledge in addition to the formal criteria:

  • Interest in questions related to communication science and communication management
  • Ability to think across disciplines
  • Analytical skills and the willingness to learn more about methods and evaluation procedures

Practical elements during your studies

No university can teach you real practice - practice must be experienced!

In addition to practical lectures, two projects await you in which you can apply your scientific and methodological knowledge in practice.

In the projects, you will not only independently create survey instruments and collect your own data, but also learn how to plan and coordinate a group project over the course of two semesters. The projects also give you the opportunity to cooperate with renowned practice partners and can thus establish contacts in the region.
