On this page, the Examinations Office has answered important questions about your course of study.
If your question is not listed, you can contact the Examinations Office.
If you sit an exam knowingly suffering from a reason for withdrawal, you do so at your own risk. You are responsible for the results if you take an exam from which you could have withdrawn.
You are responsible for the results of examinations you take even though you are sick or had another important reason to withdraw.
In general, you can submit a request to withdraw for health reasons if you are unable to take the exam due to an illness.
What does it mean to be unable to take an exam due to an illness?
Students are unable to take an exam because of their illness if their ability to work is significantly reduced due to an illness. Their ability to work must be reduced so much that the students are unable to demonstrate in the exam how much they actually know and can do.
Especially the following cases are not considered an inability to take an exam:
- Exam stress and fear of exams: This limitation of the students’ abilities arises from the exam situation itself. It is assumed that every person being examined is subject to this limitation to a greater or lesser extent.
- Day-to-day fluctuations of abilities: One of the requirements for success is that students are able to perform “normally” even if they are having a bad day.
- Chronic problems: This includes chronic illnesses. In contrast to acute illnesses, these do not distort the students’ abilities. To compensate for their illness, students with chronic illnesses can request a disadvantage compensation.
- Health limitations that are the fault of the student, e.g. too high dosage of anti-anxiety medication.
You may submit a request for withdrawal for good reason if
- you cannot take an exam or
- you have to leave an exam.
Request in case of examinations you did not show up for
If you do not show up for an examination due to health reasons, an application for withdrawal must be submitted within a maximum of 7 days following the date of the examination.
A request for withdrawal for important reasons is an informal application. You must specify your reasons for withdrawal in writing. (An e-mail is not sufficient, we need your signature). Include proof - if possible - with your request.
The examination committee decides on applications for withdrawal for good reasons.
Submit the application in the Student Information Center or put it in the postbox at the Examinations Office.
If the withdrawal is approved, the Examination Office will register you for the next exam date. This only applies for examinations. You will receive a registration confirmation by mail after approval. You can view the approved withdrawals on Studium online in the section “Information on deregistered exams."
You can cancel your registration online for any exam up to seven days before the exam date.
If a module consists of several examinations, the earliest exam date applies.
After cancellation, your registration is deleted.
If it is not possible to cancel your registration online, please send an email to the Examinations Office at least 7 days before the examination and indicate which examination you wish to cancel.
Registration is binding on the sixth day before the examination date. After that, it is only possible to withdraw for certain reasons.
You can request to withdraw from examinations due to activities in the Flexible Learning Semester. Withdrawal is possible if the following applies:
- You are completing an activity in the Flexible Learning Semester that takes place at the same time as an examination, or
- You are completing an activity during the Flexible Learning Semester that takes up a great deal of time (e.g. internship, stay abroad).
You must withdraw at least seven days before the examination date. If a module consists of several examinations, the earliest exam date applies.
To withdraw for activities in the Flexible Learning Semester, please use the appropriate form. State the reason you wish to withdraw and include documentation.
If the withdrawal is approved, the examination office will register you for the next exam date. You can view the approved withdrawals on Studium online in the section “Information on deregistered exams."
Submit the application in the Student Information Center or put it in the postbox at the Examinations Office.
