UNIcert® is a certification system specially designed for foreign language training at universities. Only universities and training modules that meet the UNIcert® quality standards are accredited. More than 50 universities throughout Germany are currently part of the UNIcert® network. Due to the increasing national and also international recognition, earning a UNIcert® certificate is a sensible building block, e.g. for your own application portfolio, since a certificate in several languages provides detailed information about your language competence.
If you want to know more about UNIcert®, please visit the UNIcert® homepage.

A UNIcert® certificate provides information in several languages about the language competence of the person named and sets this competence in relation to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for Languages, currently the leading international comparison system in the language field. UNIcert® Basis is based on level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, UNIcert® I on level B1, UNIcert® II on level B2, and UNIcert® III on level C1.
Certificates are issued for the levels Basis, I, and II cumulatively, i.e. based on the courses attended. If the prerequisites are met (see scope of training), certificates will be issued upon request. The request is made using the form in the Language Center's Mediothek.
Certificates for level III are issued after successful completion of the training level and a corresponding examination. To participate in the examination, students must be formally registered and show proof that the requirements are met. The request is made using the form and declaration in the Language Center's Mediothek.
The certificate will be issued approximately 4 weeks after the application has been submitted or the last examination taken.
Attending courses or assessing language proficiency within a level does not entitle the holder to a certificate for lower levels.
Entry into an ongoing training program requires a prior language level assessment. This does not lead to a certification of the UNIcert® levels below the entry level.
Typically, the language level is determined by a placement test (C-test). Alternatively, access to a training level is possible with a UNIcert certificate from the previous level. The examination committee will decide on any exceptions.
Here you will find the study and examination regulations (in German).
