International BAföG (Auslands-BAföG)
The Federal Student Financing Act (BAföG) regulates state support for education, including for students. The abbreviation BAföG is often used to refer to the actual financial support provided under the legislation.
What is International BAföG? | Students (Bachelor’s, Master’s or equivalent) can apply for the so-called International BAföG. Because of the higher costs associated with doing part of your studies abroad (increased living costs, travel expenses and tuition fees), different approval guidelines apply for the International BAföG than for the BAföG in Germany. On top of the usual support received in Germany, the International BAföG can include supplements for higher living costs, travel expenses and foreign health insurance costs. |
Where can I apply for my International BAföG? | Depending on the destination country, different BAföG offices are responsible for the International BAföG. |
